Amana Refrigerator Fan Motor

My evaporator fan motor will not run in my Amana refrigerator...

Some Amana refrigerators operate the evaporator fan motors power (the one inside the freezer) through the defrost thermostat. The defrost thermostat will open during the defrost cycle and when the refrigerator starts back up the evaporator fan motor will not run until the cooling coils have frosted over and the defrost thermostat re-closes allowing power to the evaporator fan motor. If the defrost thermostat fails to re-close = the evaporator fan motor will not run.

There have also been some issues with moisture getting into wire junction connectors in the freezer and causing problems.

Some RTV sealant on any wire connector or marrette connector will help keep moisture out.

If the defrost thermostat is stuck open, the evaporator fan motor may quit, and the cooling coils will probably plug up with frost. The defrost thermostat can be cut out and the wires joined together for testing only, if the evaporator fan motor then operates, replace the defrost thermostat.
